Parade participants are encouraged to park at Market Square and walk around downtown to check out the shops. Live music will be part of the festivities and many stores will remain open. Christmas music will play commercial-free on Door County Daily News' radio stations during the parade for those who want to tune in from their vehicles.Īfter the car parade, Santa will head to the city Christmas tree under the bell tower at Community Foundation Square, North Third Avenue and Kentucky Street, to officiate the first lighting of the tree at 8 p.m. The parade will head up Oak Street from the park to Madison Avenue, then cross the Michigan Street Bridge to Third Avenue, north on Third to Jefferson Street for a block, then head back south on Fourth Avenue to City Hall.Īs the head of the parade passes by, participating businesses will "unwrap" by peeling back the papers in their storefront windows to reveal their holiday displays for the first time of the season. Claus will be joined by vehicles from the Sturgeon Bay Fire and Police departments to lead the cars out onto the streets of the city. Decorating the cars is welcome.Īt 6 p.m., Santa Claus and Mrs. Members of the community can join the parade by arriving at Sawyer Park between 5:15 and 5:45 p.m. Kicking off the weekend is the "Unwrapping," the third annual community car parade Friday night through downtown on both sides of the channel that gives participants and spectators the chance to check out festively decorated downtown storefronts for the first time this season.
